Mayo town celebrates its eye-catching new lakeside enhancements

The cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District has welcomed the enhancement of Lough Lannagh funded under the community recognition fund.

Councillor Donna Sheridan stated: "Talented artist Michael Beerens has completed the art work in the new shelter at the lakeside.

"This, combined with the new steps and barrier at the driving board and the improvement to the pontoon for the Dragon Boat, has really transformed the area.

"Massive thanks to David Mellett, Leslie McNicholas and Sean O’Donnell from Castlebar MD office for leading this project.

"The Castlebar Community Clean-Up Group, Tidy Towns and Castlebar MD staff, lead by Joe Mangan, have done brilliant work to maintain and enhance our lake.

"It is brilliant to see what can be achieve when community volunteer groups work with the council for the betterment of the town."

Some landscape works around the area of the shelter will take place over the coming weeks.

In other good news for the county town, Councillor Sheridan confirmed that work on the new skate park in the vicinity of Lough Lannagh will start will commence next week.
