Mayo prepares hero’s welcome for world silver medallist Nell McLaughlin

Westport is set for a proud evening tomorrow as Irish silver medalist Nell McLaughlin returns home from the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Montenegro.

Nell, who fought her way to a silver medal for Ireland, will be welcomed at a homecoming celebration at Westport Town Hall Theatre at the Octagon on Tuesday, November 5, at 6 p.m.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy has encouraged the community to come out and show support for Westport’s world champion, calling it a “#prouddayforwestport.”

This achievement places McLaughlin, of Eagles Boxing Club, among Mayo’s elite athletes, as she returns with one of two silver medals won by the county at this year's championships—alongside Ballyhaunis boxer Carlagh Peake.
