Getafe CF appear ready to finalise the transfer of John Joe Patrick Finn to Stade de Reims as part of their winter transfer window operations, according to reports in Spain.

The Madrid-born midfielder, whose father hailed from Devlis, Ballyhaunis made history at La Coloséum by becoming the club’s youngest-ever debutant at 17 under José Bordalás.

Having alternated between the first team and Getafe B in recent seasons, Finn has made significant strides this year, securing more consistent appearances in the senior squad.

Now, his time at the Spanish club appears to be coming to an end, with his transfer to Ligue 1’s Stade de Reims reportedly closing for just over €1 million.

The 21-year-old is currently undergoing a medical in France, with the move expected to be finalised imminently.

Finn started his football career in Real Madrid’s academy before moving to Getafe in 2018, he worked his way through the ranks to break into the senior team.

Since his debut, he has played 15 games for Getafe's first team, scoring once in last season’s Copa del Rey match against Tardienta.

This season, he has featured in six matches—four in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Stade de Reims eager to bring him into their ranks as they aim to strengthen their midfield options.

Despite being eligible to play for Spain, France, or Cameroon, Finn has publicly expressed his commitment to representing the Republic of Ireland.

He made his Ireland U19 debut in 2021 and remains a prospect for the national team setup where midfielders have been in short supply.

His move to Stade de Reims will be a long-awaited fresh chapter in his career, offering him the opportunity to compete in one of Europe's top leagues while also gaining first-team minutes.

Stade de Reims are currently 12th in the French top flight and also have Irish underage international Ike Orazi in their ranks.
