Another award for Fontaines D.C. celebrated in Mayo

Fontaines D.C. have been announced as the winner of the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2024 for their album Romance.

Artist Roisin El Cherif accepted the award at a ceremony in Vicar St on behalf of the band, as they are currently on tour in Australia.

This latest award is being celebrated in Mayo, home to band members Conor Deegan (bass) and Tom Coll (drums), who both hail from Castlebar.

The band receive a cheque for €10,000 from the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), as well as a specially commissioned award.

The Irish Album of the Year award is chosen from a shortlist of 10 albums by a panel of 11 Irish music media professionals and industry experts.

Kabin Crew & Lisdoonvarna Crew were voted the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year for their song 'The Spark'.

KNEECAP won Breakthrough Irish Artist of the Year, with Irish Artist of the Year going to Jordan Adetunji.

Julie Feeney, the first winner of the RTÉ Choice Music Prize AOTY (2005), welcomed Priscilla Kotey (Warner Music MD) to the stage to collect Enya’s award for the Classic Irish Album for her 1998 LP Watermark.

RTÉ2 will broadcast a one-hour TV programme of the RTÉ Choice Music Prize, featuring performances from the eight acts and hosted by Tracy Clifford, on Thursday, March 13, at 10.35 p.m.

This latest success for Fontaines D.C. comes hot on them winning the International Group of the Year gong at the Brit Awards.
