Concern about exposed nature of central Mayo bus shelters

THE exposed nature of new bus shelters in Balla has been raised at council level.

There's a side panel only on one side of each, leaving them open on the prevailing wind side.

While this is so drivers can see if passengers are waiting, Councillor Al McDonnell suggested a transparent panel could easily be installed.

There's also an issue where one platform extends out, resulting in the bus coming close to the middle of the road when it pulls up.

This, he said, has been identified as a source of potential danger.

Speaking at a municipal district meeting, he also highlighted how there's an issue with a bus shelter in Killawalla, which is too close to a bend, resulting in widespread reservations about it.

Councillor McDonnell asked that this be looked at again.
