Iconic car parked in middle of Mayo public green space attracting interest
A replica of one of the most famous cars in television history is today parked in the middle of the Mall in Castlebar.
The yellow, three-wheeled vehicle, fondly remembered from the much-loved BBC comedy series 'Only Fools and Horses,' will remain on display at the location today and possibly tomorrow.
It's all part of the build-up to the Mayo Auto Fest being held at the nearby Pavilion Road car park on Sunday.
The car is a little different than the show's leading protagonist Del Boy's 1967 Reliant Regal Supervan III, which served as as the Trotters' main mode of transport.
It was also used to store much of Trotters Independent Traders' stock and transport it to several market destinations.
Seven series of the sitcom were originally broadcast on BBC One from 1981 to 1991, with sixteen sporadic Christmas specials aired until the end of the show in 2003.
The show remains a popular feature on the Gold channel on the Sky television platform.
Set in working-class Peckham in south-east London, it stars David Jason as ambitious market trader Derek "Del Boy" Trotter and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his younger brother Rodney Trotter, alongside a supporting cast.
The series received numerous awards, including recognition from BAFTA, the National Television Awards, and the Royal Television Society, as well as winning individual accolades for both Sullivan and Jason.
It was voted Britain's Best Sitcom in a 2004 BBC poll.
