Safer site needed when circuses visit Mayo county town

A new site needs to be identified for when the circus visits Castlebar.

The issue has been raised yet again by Councillor Ger Deere, with the circus coming back to its traditional site at Milebush, on the outskirts of the town.

The location, he said, is totally unsuitable and there are safety concerns.

No one wants to stop the circus, which is exempt from planning, but providers have to be accommodated at a more suitable site, he told the monthly municipal district meeting this week.

They could have a fatality or a serious accident on their hands, Councillor Deere warned, and people would ask why didn't they do something.
