Joe Deacy murder investigation raised with minister on Mayo visit

CONCERNS over the unsolved murder of Joe Deacy were raised with the Minister for Justice during a visit to Mayo.

Campaigner Councillor Brendan Mulroy has received a commitment from Minister Jim O'Callaghan that he will raise the matter with the new Garda Commissioner.

Joe Deacy, from St. Albans in London, died in hospital from head injuries caused by blunt force trauma, having been found outside a house in the Swinford area in which he was staying on August 12, 2017.

Minister O'Callaghan, along with Minister Dara Calleary, met with Fianna Fáil councillors in Ballina yesterday.

Councillor Mulroy brought up the ongoing garda investigation into the murder of Joe Deacy and received a commitment from Minister O'Callaghan that he will bring up all his concerns with the new Garda Commissioner.

Said Councillor Mulroy: “I have talked previously with the minister and he is very much aware of the ongoing investigation.

"It is important to remember that An Garda Síochána are actively looking to find out who murdered Joe Deacy and bring them to justice.”

The Westport councillor also outlined intimidation that has happened over the years since Joe's death.
