Witness appeal following serious assault in Ballaghadereen
UPDATE FRIDAY EVENING: Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with their investigation into a serious assault at Barrack Street, Ballaghadereen, on January 1.
The man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.
Investigations are ongoing.

GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault that occurred in Ballaghadereen in the early hours of Thursday, January 1.
The incident occurred on Barrack Street at around 1 a.m.
A male (aged in his 30s) was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he remains in a critical condition.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established in Castlerea Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.
Any persons who were in the vicinity of Barrack Street between 12.45 a.m. and 1.15 a.m. on January 1 and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
