Traffic calming proposed at west Mayo school

MAYO County Council proposes to implement traffic calming measures at the following locations in west Mayo: L1822 Brackloon Road and Tawnynameeltoge Road.

The Safe Routes to School project is being developed at Brackloon National School.

Located on a rural road with a 60km/h speed limit, the school currently lacks footpath or dedicated cycling infrastructure along its frontage or in the immediate vicinity.

As part of the scheme, works at the front of the school will focus on reducing vehicle speeds, enhancing the visibility of the school, and improving safety and access for cyclists, pedestrian and other venerable users. The scheme also proposes to deliver improved cycling facilities and safer pedestrian connections to support active travel to and from the school.

The proposed traffic calming measures include pedestrian crossings, junction tightening, signage and road markings with all associated site works.

Drawings and particulars relating to the proposed works may be inspected at Westport-Belmullet Municipal District, Westport Civic Offices, Altamont Street, Westport, or online here up to January 6.

Submissions and observations on the proposed works are also invited up to 4.30 p.m. on January 6.
