Mayo motorist fined heavily after being caught twice exceeding speed limit

A motorist who was twice caught exceeding the speed limit has been fined heavily in her absence from court.

Maria Korvlakova, Stradavoher Court, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, was convicted at Ballina District Court on two counts of speeding.

Garda Evan Joyce told the court that on March 17, 2025, the defendant's vehicle was detected driving at an average speed of 108km/hr by the speed camera on the N5 at Lislackagh West, Swinford.

The limit is 100km/hr.

Garda Joyce gave further evidence of a separate speeding incident on March 30, 2025, at the same location. On this occasion, the vehicle was travelling at 113km/hr.

The garda handed into court a photo of the registration of the vehicle, proof that Korvlakova was the owner and that she received the court summons. She has no previous convictions.

Judge Sandra Murphy said the proofs were all in order and she was satisfied to convict Korvlakova in her absence. She imposed fines totalling €900.
