Dillon pushes for clarity on future of east Mayo facility

Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has stepped up pressure on the HSE to deliver a concrete plan for the future of the Áras Attracta campus in Swinford, amid growing concern that the east Mayo facility has been left significantly underused despite strong local demand for community-based health services.

The Minister has been engaging with HSE Capital Estates team and senior management to push for meaningful progress on the site, stressing the need for timely decision-making and a clear roadmap for how the campus can be repurposed to meet the health and community service needs of the region.

"Ensuring that this facility is properly examined, valued, and developed for the benefit of the Swinford and wider Mayo community is a key priority," Minister Dillon said.

"I will continue to engage directly with HSE management to ensure real progress is made."

The Minister has welcomed confirmation from the HSE that comprehensive needs assessments are now underway across all services in the area.

Áras Attracta is also understood to remain on the agenda of the Mayo Capital Steering Group, which is due to convene again later this month.

The outcomes of those assessments are expected to determine which buildings on the campus can be brought back into use, what level of investment may be required, and which sections may ultimately be deemed surplus to requirements.

Minister Dillon has made clear that the local community deserves full transparency on the future of what he described as an important public asset, and has pledged to continue pursuing the matter at the highest levels of the HSE until a clear path forward is established.
