Major boost in further reversing decline at old Mayo town centre location

A significant investment is planned for a prominent Mayo town centre three-storey property that has been vacant for many years.

Local firm, Yewtree Ventures Limited, has lodged a planning application to Mayo County Council in respect of the former Ryan family property at Ellison Street in Castlebar.

The owners are seeking to change the use of the dwelling to form four ground floor offices/studios with two upper floor apartments within the existing building envelope.

It is also planned to demolish a section of the building and the provision of external refuse and bicycle storage, all associated site works.

The move represents another major boost for a street that had fallen into decline over the past two decades.

Works are already underway on demolishing four nearby buildings owed by Mayo County Council and converting them in a social housing project.
