€1.29 million for council mortgages in Mayo

MAYO County Council has approved borrowings of €2,290,000 for this year's Local Authority Home Loan and Local Authority Purchase and Renovation Scheme.

Last year there were 11 approvals for mortgages through the local authority, with seven loans drawn down.

This year's borrowings were approved at the monthly meeting of the local authority.

The importance of the scheme was stressed by Councillor Donna Sheridan, who said it provides an opportunity for people who cannot get a mortgage through a bank, allowing them to get on the property ladder.
