Upgrade works at west Mayo car park to start next week
UPGRADE works at the Mill Street/High Street Car Park in Westport will commence next Tuesday, May 5.
Traffic management will be in place and there will be restrictions as the works - resurfacing and a new barrier - progress.
The car park will be fully closed to the public from Monday, May 11, for approximately two weeks, Mayo County Council has advised the public.
The progress on resurfacing the Mill Street/High Street car park was welcomed by Councillor Peter Flynn at a municipal district meeting this week.
It will mean some disruption for users but the upgrade is 'welcome and overdue', he said.
There had been complications around what the council had tried to do, he added, with resurfacing and a barrier now rather than additional space being created.
Councillor Flynn appealed to the business community and public to bear with them for the next few weeks as there will be disruption. But at the end of it all they will have a better car park, which is overdue.
