Warm Mayo tributes to 'great character' John 'Suzie' Cresham
The death of John (Suzie) Cresham, Knockaphunta, Castlebar and late of 96 McHale Road, Castlebar, is deeply regretted in the community at large.
He died peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff in Cuan Chaitríona Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
A member of one of Castlebar's oldest and most respected families, he was a retired member of the staff of Eircom.
John had a close association with Castlebar Celtic F.C. for many years.
A tribute by the club said: "We were deeply saddened by the passing of our great friend and former player, John 'Suzie' Cresham.
"John was a valued member of our club and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
"Our sincere condolences to his wife Anna, his family extended family and his brother Padraic at this very difficult time."
The deceased was also involved with the Castlebar International Four Days Walks for many years.
A tribute by the organisation said: "We were very sorry to learn of the death of our dear friend and colleague, John 'Suzie' Cresham.
"Suzie, and his wife Anna, were such a big part of our festival for many years going back.
"He always had a smile, quick wit, and was vital to our festival operation for all those years that he was involved.
"No job was too big or small for Susie, and he took on his role conscientiously, and without fuss. We will be forever grateful."
Fond tributes are also being paid to him on the condolences page of RIP.ie and Midwest Radio.
"He was one of the nicest people you could meet, a great character. Many the good chat we had walking around the lake (Lough Lannagh)", one stated.
"He was such a lovely, lovely man. He is sadly missed," another said.
"A sound man always," a further tribute added.
He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Anna, sons Leigh, Roy and Dylan, daughters Alma (Ralph), Chloe (Ali) and Freya, brother Padraic, sisters-in-law Marie, Petrina, Andrea, Leanne and Caoimhe, brothers-in-law Ronan, Barry and Colm, grandchildren Milo, Elsie, Leon, Seif, Isla Blue, Arlo, Lennox, Shem and Lexie, sons-in-law John and Sam, daughter-in-law Rebecca, mother-in-law Anne (Jordan), nieces Nicola, Louise, Elaine, Clodagh, Siobhan and Fionnuala, best friend Pud (Gerard) Lisibach, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
John was predeceased by his parents Martha and William, sister Julie, brother Billy, father-in-law Kevin (Jordan) and brother-in-law Michael (O’Brien).
John will repose in Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Friday from 5.30 to 7 p.m.
Funeral cortége will arrive at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Requiem Mass at 1.30 p.m. (via McHale Road).
John will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery.
