HSE board approves contract award for Mayo Emergency Department
CONFIRMATION that the HSE board has approved the contract award for the new Emergency Department at Mayo University Hospital has been welcomed by Minister of State Alan Dillon, who described it as a major breakthrough for the hospital, for staff, and for patients across the county.
Minister Dillon said this is a strong and clear sign of progress on a project that has been needed for many years.
Further details will be provided shortly in relation to the contract award and the commencement of works on this important project.
He commented: “This is a significant breakthrough for Mayo University Hospital and a very important day for the people of Mayo. For too long, patients, families, nurses, doctors, and hospital staff have had to work with facilities that are under real pressure.
“Today’s approval by the HSE Board is a major step forward in delivering the modern Emergency Department that Mayo needs and deserves.
“This project matters because it will make a real difference to people’s lives. A new Emergency Department means better facilities for patients, better working conditions for frontline staff, and a stronger hospital for the whole county. Mayo University Hospital is at the heart of healthcare in our region, and this investment is about backing that hospital and backing the people who depend on it.”
He added: “I want to acknowledge the significant capital funding that has been committed to this project, most recently through Government investment in our health infrastructure. I have worked hard to keep this project moving, and I remain fully committed to seeing it delivered. I also want to thank my colleague, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, for her support and engagement in helping to progress this vital development for Mayo University Hospital.”
Minister Dillon said he will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, the HSE, hospital management, and local stakeholders to ensure the project moves forward to delivery as quickly as possible.
“This is about delivery. People in Mayo want to see progress on the ground, and I will continue to push this project every step of the way until the new Emergency Department is delivered for Mayo University Hospital.”
