Honours even in entertaining Mayo Super League clash

A keenly contested league encounter between Claremorris and Glenhest Rovers ended in a 2-2 draw at Concannon Park.

Glenhest Rovers entered this game in a confident frame of mind and were eager to record what would have been their sixth victory of the season.

However, the hosts produced some neat attacking football during the opening moments of the game, and the south Mayo side took the lead after nine minutes, when Mark Maloney’s strike found the bottom corner of the net.

Glenhest tried to regroup, and the visitors crafted a decent opportunity on 21 minutes, but Connor McCarthy’s effort was saved by Peter Murphy.

Five minutes later, Rovers were left ruing their luck when Pat Mulchrone’s close-range header forced a fine save by the alert Murphy.

On 37 minutes, a buoyant Claremorris netted their second goal of the joust, when Maloney once again guided home an exquisite finish.

Rovers were given a lifeline though on 39 minutes, courtesy of a coolly taken goal by the effervescent McCarthy.

The Beltra men were largely the better side during the second half, and they netted a deserving equaliser on 64 minutes. A raking throw-in from the impressive Levi Barrett eventually found Cathal Chambers and the latter steered home a neat finish.

The remainder of the game was delicately poised, however, in the end both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
