Dome set to make welcome return to Mayo tennis club in August
Castlebar Tennis Club is set to replace the Dome which was destroyed by Storm Isha in January 2024.
The state-of-the-art facility had been in place for a decade before being blown asunder.
Now John Feerick, club chairman, has confirmed the arrival of the new Dome amenity in mid-August, which will provide major benefits for club members and coaches alike.
“Castlebar Tennis Club is also considering other opportunities that will complement the club and these will be announced soon,” he stated.
He was speaking as club members gathered at Garvin Hall to honour the recently retired trustees of the club.
Presentations were made to former trustees Anne Tobin, John Kilkelly and Alan Hynes in recognition of their years of dedicated service.
Mr. Feerick also acknowledged the important role played by trustees within the club and thanked them for their selfless commitment and contribution over many years.
Tom Murphy also paid tribute to the trustees, sharing stories from the club’s long history and remarking that “it’s a good job that those walls can’t talk.”
He fondly recalled memories of friends past and present and highlighted that the club is fast approaching its 90th anniversary.
Mr. Feerick spoke about the highly successful seniors Inter-Pros tournament hosted by the club recently and highlighted the significant economic benefit that major sporting events bring to the town of Castlebar.
Appreciation was also extended to Aran and Rua for providing refreshments for the event.
Castlebar Tennis Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2027, with a schedule of events planned to mark the milestone.
