Mayo wrap up Gaynor Cup campaign with good win
By Michael Collins
MAYO wrapped up their Gaynor Cup campaign this morning with a fine 4-0 win over Tipperary South.
The Mayo management really rang the changes, making a huge nine changes from the previous starting line-up, ensuring that all squad numbers got valuable game time.
Lexi Murphy opened the scoring on seven minutes, with Elizabeth McFetridge with the assist. Murphy had a second goal in the 29th minute with Ayda Bristow assisting. And sandwiched between these two goals was a Riona Corrigan goal set up by Karla Gibbons.
Mayo sealed the victory 10 minutes from time when Ailis Harte converted Violet O'Malley's cross.
The Mayo volunteer management team was Mike McGeough, Dave Bristow, Emma Gibbons, Helen McGeough, Clare Hoban, Orlaith McGeough, Grace Hennelly, Kian Flanagan and Zoe Flanagan. John Flanagan was there as head of delegation and Mayo Schoolboys/Girls stalwarts Dave Breen and Patrick Lambe were both on SFAI duties.
Mayo can be rightly proud of the people they have doing the work at grassroots level, year in year out.
