Mayo native's 'A Good Funeral' selected for film fleadh

'A Good Funeral', written and starring Mayo native Aoife Martyn, was an official selection in the Galway Film Fleadh 2026.

A dark comedy about an 'odd' young woman, Linda, living in rural Ireland, who compulsively attends funerals to deal with the passing of her own mother, the film has already had its world premiere at the London Comedy Film Festival and its Irish premiere at Fastnet Film Festival in Cork in May.

Aoife, who is a native of Breaffy, previously toured Ireland with her own one woman show 'Nursey', about the trials and tribulations of a young student nurse from the west of Ireland leaving home and heading to Dublin City in the 1970s.

Aoife was previously commissioned by the Abbey Theatre as part of the Dear Ireland online series to write 'Night 4', based on the experiences and burnout of frontline healthcare workers during the Covid pandemic, performed by Norma Sheehan.
