Mayo festivals get funding boost

Funding of €9,855 has been allocated for Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools taking place across Mayo, Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD has said.

Minister Dillon said, “Four local festivals have got funding in Mayo which recognises the hard work of everyone working behind the scenes to bring communities together."

He continued, "I am pleased to see that funding has been awarded to Castlebar Music Festival which will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend and has the theme of ‘Castlebar becomes CastleBruce.”

The scheme is designed to assist local cultural events which may not be eligible under funding criteria for larger scale events such as those supported by Fáilte Ireland, the Arts Council and similar bodies.

The closing date for applications was 1 p.m. on April 2 2026.

Funding was allocated following a competitive applications process, with a maximum grant of €5,000 available.

The allocations in Mayo are:

Circus 250 Productions CLG, Achill €4,880

Thence CLG, Ballina €1,225

Castlebar Music Festival €2,500

Admiral Brown Society Foxford €1,250

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, Patrick O’Donovan said: “Culture and the arts play a vital role in enriching our society, strengthening communities and preserving Irelands unique heritage.

Through the support of my Department, festivals and summer schools across the country continue to provide opportunities for people to connect, learn and celebrate our shared traditions.”

Minister Dillon said: “These events showcase the richness of Mayo’s cultural life and reflect the dedication and creativity of the organisers, volunteers, artists and communities who make them possible."
