Councillors' photos should be displayed in Castlebar Municipal District chamber

PHOTOGRAPHS of former Castlebar councillors who served in the role of chairperson should be displayed in the municipal district chamber.

Previously hung on the walls at the old town council offices in Marsh House, they had ended up in a skip a number of years ago when the town authority was abolished.

Luckily, they were rescued, with district cathaoirleach Councillor Ger Deere praising the role of a council employee in salvaging them.

Now he wants to see them back on the wall.

Councillor Deere recalled how all the different councillors over the years were framed on the walls of Marsh House. Having been rescued after being thrown in a skip years ago, he said they should be on the wall in their present home in the annex at Áras an Chontae.

These were the generations who built the town and they should be displayed, he commented.
