Berlin Wall talk in Mayo library to mark 65th anniversary
Castlebar Library will host a talk next Thursday, August 13, at 7.00 p.m. on the Green Belt, the network of greenways, biodiversity hubs and nature trails that has grown up along the former path of the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall.
The talk, titled From Iron Curtain to Green Belt: Biodiversity at its Best, will be delivered by Dagmar Wennacher, former chairwoman of the Höchstadt-Castlebar Friendship Association and a familiar face in the town.
Wennacher will focus on the Green Belt, an environmental initiative that has been developed over nearly four decades and is now Europe's longest green network, stretching more than 12,000 kilometres.
The date was chosen by Wennacher herself, falling on the 65th anniversary of the start of construction on the Berlin Wall.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
