Mayo bus stops to be reinstated on Ballina-Galway route

Bus stops at Straide and Breaffy are to be reinstated on the Ballina-Galway Citylink route, Senator Mark Duffy has confirmed.

Senator Duffy said the additional stops were secured following a series of representations to Citylink and the National Transport Authority.

The Breaffy stop is scheduled to become active from August 31, while the Straide stop will come into operation once roadworks on the N58 at Ballylahan are completed.

Citylink currently runs eight services a day on the Ballina-Galway route. Senator Duffy said the new stops would be "a huge benefit to local commuters, to students, and to those attending medical appointments."

He thanked everyone who had contacted him about the issue in recent months, saying their feedback and persistence were instrumental in getting the decision reversed.

"Community voices do matter," he said.

Senator Duffy also thanked Mayo County Council and Galway City Council for their co-operation on the approval process, and acknowledged the work of Cllr Donna Sheridan and Cllr Neil Cruise, adding that he would continue to work closely with them to deliver for the local community.
