Claremorris Musical Society announces auditions for milestone 20th production
CLAREMORRIS Musical Society is preparing to raise the curtain on another unforgettable season as it announces auditions for its landmark 20th production - the much-loved comedy-drama Calendar Girls The Musical, featuring the uplifting music and lyrics of Gary Barlow and Tim Firth.
Based on the inspiring true story that captured hearts around the world, Calendar Girls The Musical follows a group of Yorkshire women who set out to raise money for charity after one of their husbands is diagnosed with leukaemia. Their courageous decision to produce an 'alternative' calendar becomes an international sensation, celebrating friendship, resilience, community and the extraordinary things ordinary people can achieve.
Packed with humour, warmth and beautiful music by Gary Barlow, the show promises laughter, tears and moments that will stay with audiences long after the curtain falls.
The announcement follows another hugely successful year for the society. Earlier this year, its acclaimed production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory received five nominations at the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards, with Claremorris Musical Society proudly finishing as runner-up in five categories - a wonderful recognition of the dedication and talent of its members.
Leading this year's production are director Donna Ruane, musical director Deirdre Lee and choreographer Jay Molyneux, who are looking forward to welcoming both returning members and newcomers to auditions.
Chairperson Vivienne Lee said: "Reaching our 20th production is a tremendous milestone for Claremorris Musical Society and one we are incredibly proud of. Calendar Girls The Musical is filled with humour, heart and hope, making it the perfect show to celebrate this occasion.
“As this is the 20th production for our society, we want to give back to the community and are especially proud to be supporting Mayo Roscommon Hospice as part of this milestone. We look forward to welcoming performers of all ages and experience levels to auditions as we begin another exciting chapter together."
Auditions will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 8 and 9, in the Dalton Inn, Claremorris, with rehearsals beginning shortly afterwards ahead of performances in Claremorris Town Hall Theatre from January 27 to 30.
Anyone wishing to audition must register in advance by completing the audition registration form available via the link on Claremorris Musical Society's social media platforms or by emailing claremorrismusicalsoc@gmail.com.
