'Person in distress' rescued from Mayo mountain

A 'person in distress' has been rescued from Slievemore Mountain on Achill Island.

Achill Island Coast Guard has reported: "At 10:45 last Monday morning, our pagers sounded and our team was tasked to assist a person in distress on Slievemore Mountain.

"Our team made their way to the casualty and safely stretchered them back down the mountain where they were handed over to the National Ambulance Service (NAS) crew and An Garda Síochána Mayo for further care and assistance.

"We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

"We are on call 24/7. If you see anyone in difficulty or in need of assistance, please call 999 or 112."

The rescue team has been praised for its efforts and professionalism.
