Mayo club rallies behind player after family caught up in M9 crash

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Claremorris LGFA player Niamh Kinsella and her family, after they were seriously injured in a crash on the M9 in Co Kildare at the weekend.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at GoFundMe Fundraiser for Ella, Niamh and Alma

Kinsella, her sisters Ella Hendricken and Alma Kinsella, and her young nephew were travelling from their homes in Carlow to Dublin Airport for a family wedding in Cheshire, England when their car was hit head-on in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The collision happened when a second car, a BMW was driven the wrong way down the motorway crashed into their Hyundai at around 3 a.m. between junctions 3 and 4 close to Moone, Co Kildare.

Their car was being driven the correct way on the motorway.

Niamh and Alma Kinsella, both in their 30s, remain in a critical condition in Tallaght University Hospital.

Their younger sister, Ella Hendricken, who is in her 20s, was transferred to St Vincent's University Hospital after initial treatment in Kilkenny and is being treated for serious injuries.

The seven-year-old boy is being treated at Children's Health Ireland in Crumlin.

In a statement, Claremorris LGFA said the whole club was thinking of Kinsella and her family. "Since joining the club Niamh slotted in seamlessly and is a valued member of the club and a brilliant team mate," the club said.

"We're sending all our love, strength and support to them at this incredibly difficult time and in the days and weeks ahead. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers."

Bryan Curley, a friend of Ella Hendricken who organised the online fundraiser for the family, said it has been an “incredibly difficult and frightening time for Ella, Niamh, Alma and their family”.

“I ask that you keep them all in your thoughts and prayers,” he said in a message on the GoFundMe website.
