Remarkable results in Mayo GAA championship encounters

The Mayo GAA senior, intermediate and junior football championships continued on Saturday, with a number of incredible results recorded.

Claremorris v Westport in Group 1 of the Connacht Gold SFC was a remarkable encounter, with the south Mayo hosts having two points to spare at the end of a really high-scoring encounter (1-28 to 6-11).

The other game in the same group saw Charlestown score a late goal to defeat Kilmeena by three points (2-11 to 1-11). The results mean there's much to play for in the final round of group games.

Another high-scoring encounter unfolded in Ballaghaderreen on Saturday evening as the hosts were beaten by visitors Knockmore, who ended up with a 15-point winning margin (1-24 to 1-9) to burst back into contention in Group 4.

The second round Group 4 game between Belmullet and Breaffy will be played tomorrow (Sunday) in Tallagh.

A similar trip from central Mayo to Erris was made this evening by Parke in the Egan Jewellers IFC, and it was a very successful journey as they recorded a commanding 3-18 to 0-4 win, boosting their chances of reaching the last eight. The picture will become clearer after Kiltane play Hollymount/Carramore in Bangor tomorrow afternoon.

Deep down in south Mayo, Kilmaine roared back into contention for a knockout spot after defeating Kiltimagh by 0-24 to 2-15 in Group 4. In the same group, Islandeady welcome Ardnaree tomorrow afternoon.

Finally, two games were played in Group 2 of the Treanlaur Catering Exclusive JFC on Saturday. The results were: Burrishoole 1-18, Bonniconlon 0-8; Shrule/Glencorrib 5-17, Moygownagh 1-16.
