Sam has a very important Mayo island appointment with strict parking rules

Achill GAA Club has announced that the Sam Maguire Cup will be making its way to Achill Island for the first time in 75 years with members of the Mayo team.

The cup will be showcased at the GAA pitch before will be piped across the bridge by local pipe bands.

The estimated time of arrival at Davitt Park is 5.30 p.m.

Please only access the club through the main gate. Access from other entrances or over roadside fences will be redirected to the right route.

Roadside park is not permitted.

An opportunity for group photos will be given to as many as possible. Individual photos will only be facilitated if time allows.

A club statement said: "To ensure there is still access for local transport and emergency services and most importantly the arrival of Sam, please park considerately in local car parks.

"D not park at either side of the road from Alice’s to Colaiste Pobal Acla.

"Please follow instructions from An Garda Siochana, Coast Guard, Civil Defence and marshals at all times.

"The club recommends walking, TFI Anseo services and carpooling.

"The event is not ticketed and no fundraisers will take place at the grounds to ensure that is accessible to all within the local community.

"Large crowds are expected, so please give yourself plenty of time to park and walk to the clubhouse.

"If planning on eating out or travelling with the attention of staying in Achill for the evening, please check with availability for food and accommodation with local bars, restaurants, hotels and B&B’s in Achill and surrounding areas, prior to arrival.

"We hope everyone who journeys to Davitt Park for the event has a safe and enjoyable experience."
