Mayo FC snap up Ballina Town centre-back Daire O'Connor

Mayo FC have announced the signing of 17-year-old centre-back Daire O'Connor from Ballina Town.

O'Connor spent the last two seasons playing senior football with Ballina Town in the Mayo Super League, gaining valuable experience at that level.

He previously came through the Sligo Rovers Academy before making the move to Mayo FC.

Speaking after the signing, O'Connor said he was proud to be joining the club.

"I'm excited for the challenge of the new National League and looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together," he said.

Mayo FC manager Anthony O'Neill welcomed the addition, praising O'Connor's grounding in both the Super League and the Sligo Rovers Academy.

"He is a composed centre-back in possession and he's an aggressive defender," O'Neill said.

"Daire is exactly the type of young player we want to bring to the club. He is eager to learn and he has a desire to play at the highest level possible. We're delighted to have him with us."

O'Connor becomes the latest addition to Anthony O'Neill's squad as Mayo FC continue to build ahead of their first season in the National League.
