Kobe named to start as Crossmolina eye quarter-final spot against Mayo Gaels

Kobe McDonald has been named to start for Crossmolina Deel Rovers when they face Mayo Gaels in Charlestown on Sunday.

A win for Brian Benson's side will guarantee the Deel Rovers a place in the Mayo Senior Football Championship quarter-finals.

The teenager was cleared by AFL club St Kilda last week to line out for his home club for the remainder of the campaign, after the Melbourne side's season ended in 11th place on the ladder.

Fellow Irish players Eamonn Armstrong and Liam O'Connell were granted the same permission to return to their clubs in Meath and Cork.

Crossmolina have taken four points from their opening two group games, beating Ballintubber before drawing with Aghamore.

Throw-in against Mayo Gaels is at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Charlestown.
