Mayo IFC: Moy Davitts see off Lahardane to secure home quarterfinal

MOY DAVITTS clinched a home quarter-final in the Intermediate Football Championship with a 1-17 to 2-11 win over Lahardane MacHales this evening at St. Joseph's Park, Knockmore.

The sides were level at half-time, 2-6 to 1-9, after a first half that swung on a freak own goal and a controversial two-pointer.

Conor Ryder turned a Mickey Murphy shot into his own net after goalkeeper Chris McGlynn's initial save, only for Brian Heneghan to cancel it out at the other end moments later.

Lahardane levelled it up right on half-time through a Mark Sheerin two-pointer, though Sheerin should have been penalised for a breach before he got his hands on the ball.

Moy Davitts pulled clear in the second half.

Man of the match Conor Reid was central to the effort, capping a strong display with a towering two-pointer ten minutes from time.

Points from Reid, Ronan Clarke and substitute Sean Kelly opened up a four-point gap that Lahardane could not close.

Moy Davitts will now host opposition in the quarter-final as they chase the intermediate title they fell short of last season, while Lahardane MacHales can point to an improvement on last year, having avoided a relegation battle.

Moy Davitts and Davitts emerge from Group 3, while Louisburgh drop into a relegation semi-final.
