Fond Mayo tributes to much-loved Timmy O'Malley on his passing

The death of Timothy (Timmy) O’Malley, Lakelands, Manulla, Castlebar, has cast a shadow of sadness and regret over the community.

He died suddenly but peacefully on Friday at Galway University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Timmy is deeply mourned by his loving wife Mary (Quinn), son David, daughter Siobhán, daughter-in-law Sophie, son-in-law Alan, grandchildren Orla, Emmy, Holly, Emma, James and Mae, brothers Michael and Francie, sister Maureen (Crossmolina), sisters-in-law Carmel, Viv, Teresa and Ann, brothers -in-law Alan, Ray, Fintan and Gary, aunt-in-law Patsy Corley (England), nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

He was predeceased by his loving parents Frank and Nora O’Malley, father-in-law Richard (Dick) and mother-in-law Peggy Quinn.

In a tribute, Manulla Football Club stated: "Timmy was a former committee member and coach of Manulla FC for many years as well as a dear friend to many of our current and past members.

"We send our deepest condolences to Mary, David, Siobhan and all of Timmy's family and friends at this very difficult time.

"As a mark of respect to Timmy, the grounds at Manulla FC will be closed until Tuesday evening."

Warm tributes are also being paid to him on social media.

One stated: "Timmy was forever one of life’s gentlemen. A great family man and community person.

"I knew and remember him well as a young man growing up in the town, he was an all round high quality sportsman and he excelled with in many sports and made his mark with different clubs. He never will be forgotten by those who knew him," one stated.

Another said: "I had the privilege of playing Under 16 football with Castlebar Mitchels back in 1972 with Timmy as captain and the team won the county final. A good footballer and a pure gentleman," another said.

"As an optometrist I had the pleasure of dealing with Timmy over the years (in his professional career). He was always a true gentleman," a further tribute added.

Timmy will repose at Balla Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral cortége will arrive at St. Cronan's Church, Balla, on Tuesday at 12.15 p.m. for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m., followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
