Mayo Minister welcomes signing of contract for Castlebar sporting facility

Minister of State, Alan Dillon has welcomed the signing of contracts between Mayo County Council and Kenaidan Contractors Ltd for the Outdoor Pursuits and Climbing Wall project at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar.

The signing marks a major milestone in the continued development of Lough Lannagh as a flagship centre for sport, recreation and outdoor activity in Mayo. The project will deliver a modern outdoor pursuits facility alongside a competition standard indoor climbing wall, strengthening Castlebar’s position as a leading destination for high quality leisure and training amenities.

Minister Dillon highlighted the significance of the investment for Castlebar and the wider county: “This project is an important step forward for Castlebar and for Mayo. “The outdoor pursuits and climbing wall development will expand the range of recreational and sporting opportunities available locally, support participation across all ages, and enhance Mayo’s reputation for outdoor activity.

“Lough Lannagh continues to evolve as a key hub for sport, wellbeing and tourism, and today’s contract signing ensures that momentum continues.”

Minister Dillon added that the project will complement existing facilities at Lough Lannagh and contribute to wider regional goals around health, wellbeing, tourism and community engagement. “I want to compliment CEO Kevin Kelly, Ann Moore, head of the Castlebar MD, Tom Gilligan director of services, David O’Malley, David Mellett and officials of Mayo County Council who continue to progress this project.

I also wish to thank Cathaoirleach Councillor Ger Deere, Councillor Cyril Burke and Councillor Donna Sheridan for their support in relation to this project.
