Mayo All-Ireland champions and Sam bring great joy to Bofeenaun shopkeepers

Sam Maguire paid a very special visit to Bofeenaun this afternoon.

Crossmolina Deel Rovers duo Conor Loftus and Kobe McDonald brought the cup into Coyne's, the 102-year-old shop beneath Nephin, for a moment with one of the parish's most sporting mad families.

Three generations of the Coyne family got to welcome Sam into their shop, a moment many in the local community had been waiting for since Andy Moran's Mayo side ended the 75-year wait for Sam Maguire on July 26.

Coyne's Shop is the beating heart of all GAA conversation in the parish, and locals stopped in throughout the afternoon to catch the special moment, with Enda, Brendan, Eanna, and Olivia and the wider Coyne family all pictured lifting Sam Maguire and posing with the cup.

In 102 years, Enda Coyne said Sam Maguire ranks as the shop's most famous customer.

Brendan Coyne (91) recalled listening to Mayo's 1950 and 1951 All-Ireland final wins on a dry and wet battery powered radio in a neighbours house the last time Mayo won the All-Ireland.

The visit of Sam to Coyne's fell on Enda's own birthday.

"It's the best birthday present ever," Enda said.

Enda Coyne, as the Mayo Rooster, appeared on Up for the Match ahead of the All-Ireland final and has regularly turned out decked in green and red, travelling the county alongside thousands of others who backed the cause through the long wait for Sam.
