Planning decision for new McDonald's Mayo outlet appealed

A GRANT of planning permission for a new McDonald's outlet in Mayo has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

It relates to a new restaurant and drive-thru adjacent to the Silverbridge Plaza and Shopping Centre in Claremorris.

Mayo County Council's decision to grant permission is now the subject of an appeal by local man Danny McHugh, who was one of a number of people to raise concerns with the local authority about the proposal.

A submission at council stage of planning raised concerns about the development leading to a proliferation of hot food type takeaway restaurants in the town, as well as issues around traffic, noise, odour, litter and proximity to a local school.

A decision on the appeal is due to be issued next January.
