Consultation to open on trial one-way system in east Mayo town

PUBLIC consultation is set to open on a trial one-way traffic system in Kiltimagh.

A route has been selected, local Councillor Adrian Forkan has confirmed, and the go-ahead given for public consultation on the one-way system in the town.

Councillor Forkan has previously highlighted the problems in Kiltimagh, with frequent hold-ups and traffic coming to a halt, both at peak commuter times and with trucks and buses having difficulty navigating the streets.

A public meeting will take place in Kiltimagh Town Hall Theatre next Monday evening, September 28, at 7 p.m.

Following the public consultation, a trial period for the route will take place, he confirmed.

Councillor Forkan said he was delighted to see progress on the traffic congestion that is choking the town, especially in the morning and evening.

“A one-way system will allow traffic to move freely and allow safer drop off points, especially at the national school and along Thomas Street.

“Let’s hope Kiltimagh can breath again and that the town grows for all on the back of it,” he said.
