€31,000 investment in Mayo-based youth services
THE Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, has welcomed over €31,000 in funding for five Mayo-based UBU Youth Services as part of a €1.6 million investment nationwide.
The funding will support minor works, equipment purchases and facility upgrades in youth services, benefitting five projects in local communities across the county.
The projects being supported in Mayo include:
* North Mayo Youth Project, €5,964;
* Involve Mayo Youth Project, €9,360;
* Ballyhaunis Youth Service, €5,075;
* An Cosán Erris UBU, €4,828;
* Castlebar with outreach to Ballinrobe UBU, €6,027
Said Minister Calleary: “This is the first dedicated capital funding stream for minor works and equipment upgrades available to UBU-funded youth services since 2023 and will help ensure that young people have access to modern, safe and welcoming spaces in which to learn, connect and participate.”
The investment will support a wide range of improvements, including ICT and digital infrastructure, building refurbishment and premises upgrades, youth programme and recreation equipment, fire, safety and security works, kitchen and domestic facilities, arts, music and creative media equipment, outdoor and environmental infrastructure, accessibility and inclusion improvements, energy efficiency and sustainability measures.
Said Minister Calleary: “Youth services play a vital role in supporting young people across Ireland, providing opportunities to develop skills, build confidence, foster social connections and promote wellbeing. This funding will support youth workers in continuing to deliver these essential services while enhancing the facilities and resources available to the young people they serve and I wish everyone well with their proposed works.”
Deputy Keira Keogh also welcomed the allocations, extending her thanks to all involved in delivering youth services across Mayo for their ongoing commitment and dedication.
“Today's announcement is a positive step towards strengthening youth work infrastructure and creating even better opportunities for the next generation,” she commented.
