New date set for Mayo intermediate final

The Egans Jewellers Mayo Intermediate Football Championship final has been moved to Saturday, October 24.

The new date was announced following a meeting of the Mayo Competitions Control Committee (CCC) on Wednesday, September 30.

The pre-emptive postponement stems from the controversy surrounding the quarter-final between Kiltane and Islandeady in Bangor Erris on Sunday, September 27.

Kiltane won the tie 0-27 to 1-21 after extra-time.

However, the Erris side had finished normal time with 13 players after Mikie Sweeney and Mikie Conroy were sent off for second bookable offences.

Under a rule change introduced at Congress in 2024, a team that has two players dismissed in normal time must play extra-time with 13. Previously, sent-off players could be replaced.

Islandeady chairman Eugene McCormack told The Connaught Telegraph on the day that the club intended to appeal.

The appeal was lodged, and following a review of the referee's report, the Mayo CCC ordered a replay.

The replay is fixed for Parke on Sunday, October 4, at 3 p.m.

Davitts await the winners in the semi-final.

That tie was scheduled for October 4 and has been deferred.

A new date has not yet been announced.

Moy Davitts play Ballinrobe in the other semi-final, that's due to go ahead in Garrymore on Saturday, October 3, at 7.30pm.

There was a further twist this week.

Kiltane are understood to be considering an appeal over the choice of Parke as the replay venue.

They had earned a home quarter-final by topping their group.

Any such appeal would go to the Connacht Hearings Committee.
