Mayo hospital allocated €300,000 for a specialist crisis nursing team

Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary has confirmed that Mayo University Hospital is being allocated €300,000 for a Specialist Crisis Nursing Team. The news was confirmed to him by his colleague Minister of State Mary Butler.

Minister Calleary said: “This is very positive news for Mayo University Hospital and its ability to provide Crisis Nursing Care. The new specialist mental health nursing teams strengthen the response available to people who present to Emergency Departments in mental health crisis, particularly in evening and overnight periods.

“With funding being provided through Budget 2027, 10 teams are being established across the country’s four Model hospitals and Mercy University Hospital; I am very happy that Mayo University Hospital is one of the chosen sites. The team to be established will comprise of two Advanced Nurse Practitioners and two Clinical Nurse Specialists who will provide specialist support to people presenting in severe distress.

“This is good news for mental health services in Mayo and a very welcome addition to the hospital.”
