New witness emerges in garda investigation into Mayo murder of Joe Deacy - report

New lines of inquiry into the Mayo murder of Joe Deacy are being ‘actively pursued,’ according to a report the Irish Independent.

A new witness living outside Ireland has emerged into the violent death of the 21-year-old nine years ago.

Mr. Deacy was found unconscious with head injuries at a location in Swinford on August 12, 2017. He later died at Beaumount Hospital, Dublin.

The report stated that a sitting of the Dublin District Coroners' Court yesterday heard that gardaí had recently travelled outside the jurisdiction after a new witness in the case had come to light.

Garda inspector Naomi de Rís told the hearing that new lines of inquiry had emerged as a result of the development.

She told Coroner Dr. Cróna Gallagher that Mr. Deacy's family - including his mother, Alison Theobald, who attended the hearing via a video link - were being kept briefed on any progress on the investigation.

Dr. Gallagher granted an application by Inspector De Rís for a further adjournment of the hearing under Section 25 (1) of the Coroners Act as criminal proceedings are under consideration.

The Irish Independent report also revealed that Mr. Deacy's organs had been donated for transplant, which saved the lives of six people.
