Mayo Peace Park wall ready to collapse

THE Mayo Peace Park wall in Castlebar is on the verge of toppling down.

It will not only be a local but also a national embarrassment if it does collapse, and an insult to the people whose names are listed on it, Councillor Harry Barrett has told council management.

“What are we going to do there?” he asked, seeking an expedited answer.

A number of months ago he asked that the minister with responsibility for the OPW be written to, to bring it under their umbrella and have it listed as an OPW monument.

It is built on council land and it has to be restored immediately, he stressed, before it collapses.
