New RTÉ sports podcast kicks off with Mayo legend
RTÉ's new sports podcast, Howler Sport, presented by Ger Gilroy, is kicking off with an interview with recently retired Mayo GAA legend Cillian O'Connor.
Howler Sport will fill your week with interviews, analysis, opinions and more, with a team of regular contributors including Richie Hogan and Austin Gleeson on hurling, Diarmuid Connolly on Gaelic football, Bordeaux attack coach Noel McNamara on rugby and Kevin Kilbane on football.
Every weekday the show will hunt down sports-zeitgeist energy wherever it can be found, and turn it into podcasting goodness.
In the first episode, Mayo legend Cillian O’Connor gives Howler Sport his first broadcast interview since retiring. Cillian talks about captaining the team aged 23, some of the biggest misses of his career, and, of course, lifting the Mayo curse with that All-Ireland win earlier this year.
Presenter Ger Gilroy said: "We're live! It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks getting the show up and running but we're very proud to have lashed the first episodes of Howler Sport into your podcast feeds.
“We've started how we mean to continue - this week we have high end rugby analysis from Noel McNamara and an exclusive broadcast interview with the legend that is Cillian O'Connor. We're cooking up plenty of surprises too in the coming weeks, having fun with the RTÉ archives and chatting about whatever our audience is talking about in sport and beyond.
“Howl at us on howler@rte.ie."
New episodes will be released into the wild every weekday afternoon, along with periodic bonus episodes. The first episode is out now on RTÉ Listen and wherever you get your podcasts.
Each week there will be at least one specialist football, rugby and GAA podcast as well as comedy, long-form interviews, and deep dives into topics such as 'football’s worst owners', and '40 years of Rugby World Cup hurt'.
Howler Sport will be an interactive space for sports fans, encouraging listeners to get in touch by emailing howler@rte.ie with their own thoughts and opinions on the latest sports news and what they’d like to hear more of.
Howler Sport is available now on RTÉ Listen, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and can be watched on YouTube.
