Weather takes a turn in Mayo as heavy rain moves in tomorrow
Mayo is set for a deteriorating spell of weather tomorrow, Thursday, October 22, with Met Éireann issuing a Status Yellow rain and wind warning as Storm Austen approaches Ireland.
Thursday morning will begin largely dry across the county, with sunny spells and some scattered showers.
Cloud will gradually increase during the afternoon, with further outbreaks of rain developing later in the day.
Temperatures will reach highs of around 10 to 12 degrees, with easterly to northeasterly winds strengthening as the day progresses.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly on Thursday evening as Storm Austen brings heavy rain and strengthening winds across the country.
A nationwide Status Yellow rain and wind warning, which includes Mayo, will come into effect at 7 p.m. on Thursday and remain in place until 10 a.m. on Friday.
Met Éireann has warned of difficult travelling conditions, possible localised flooding, disruption to outdoor events, displaced debris and some fallen trees and branches.
The storm is expected to bring widespread heavy rainfall overnight, with the strongest winds and most severe conditions currently forecast for southern and southeastern counties.
Friday will see lingering rain gradually clear, giving way to brighter spells and scattered blustery showers, particularly in western counties.
Motorists and members of the public are advised to monitor further weather updates as Storm Austen approaches.
