Date set for official opening of Mayo's first columbarium

MAYO'S first columbarium will officially open at Crossmolina Cemetery on Wednesday, November 11, at 2 pm.

The new addition to host cremated remains has been welcomed by Councillor Michael Loftus, who confirmed the official opening.

Said Councillor Loftus: “This is a very special day for our community, and one that would not have been possible without the dedication, vision and hard work of the Crossmolina Graveyard Committee. From the very beginning, they believed in this project and worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition. They deserve enormous credit for what they have achieved.

“I would also like to sincerely thank the environment section of Mayo County Council for their support and cooperation throughout the process. Their willingness to work closely with the committee played a huge part in making this project a reality.”

He added: “This is a wonderful addition to Crossmolina Graveyard and will provide families with an important new option for remembering and honouring their loved ones for generations to come. I look forward to joining with members of the community on the day to mark this important occasion and celebrate the achievement of everyone involved.”
