Apartments refusal at Mayo county town site under appeal
A DECISION to refuse planning permission for a residential development at the former Coal Bunker site in Castlebar has been appealed to An Comisiún Pleanála.
This is the second time Mayo County Council has refused an application to build apartments on the site, opposite the Sacred Heart Hospital.
A reduced density proposal was made by developer Harold Conway for 12 apartments (four two-bed and eight one-bed). Previously, planning had been sought for 19 units.
In its ruling, the council said the site is zoned ‘Enterprise and Employment’. Therefore, the proposed residential development would materially contravene the land use zoning set out in the Castlebar Town and Environs Local Area Plan.
That decision is now under appeal, with a decision due before the end of February.
