Winning start for defending champions in women's masters league
DEFENDING top division champions Claremorris AFC got off to a winning start in their opening game of the 2026/27 Mayo Women's Masters League, which is again sponsored by LPB Building Services this year.
It was a close encounter though, in a superb game of football, where they emerged 1-0 winners over newly promoted Snugboro A on Tuesday night.
Ballyglass A made it two wins from two outings, also in Division One, with a 3-2 result against Straide & Foxford. A Cora Staunton hat-trick sealed the deal in the second half after falling two behind.
Westport United and Castlebar Town finished honours even in Division Two - 2-2 the scoreline there. Westport twice held the advantage but Natasha Connolly secured a share of the points for Town midway through the second half.
In the division's other game, Ballyvary Blue Bombers went on a scoring blitz against Ballina Town where Julie Ann Reilly led the way with three goals for the Bombers in a 1-8 win.
Edel Mulhern scored the game's only goal in the Division 3 tie between Castlebar Celtic and Ballyheane, with the county town side on full points after two games. And Ballyglass B enjoyed a 3-1 victory in their first game of the season. Patricia Noonan, Niamh Hughes and Klarissa Darcy were on the scoresheet as they saw off the challenge of Killala.
